Shen Dan (PhD, Univ. of Edinburgh, 1988) is Professor of English (1992–) , Changjiang Professor of English (2004–, title conferred by China's Ministry of Education) and Director of the Center for European and American Literatures at Peking University. She is a consultant editor of The Routledge Encyclopedia of Narrative Theory, a member of the editorial board of the British journal Language and Literature (1999–) and the European journal JLS: Journal of Literary Semantics (2008–). She is the president of China Narratology Association (2005–), the president of China Stylistics Association, and a vice president of China Foreign Literatures Association. Apart from her numerous books and essays published in China, she has published over 30 essays in North America and Europe, mostly in journals including Narrative (four essays), Style (four essays), Poetics Today, JNT: The Journal of Narrative Theory (also The Journal of Narrative Technique), Poetics, Nineteenth-Century Literature, JLS: Journal of Literary Semantics, Babel, Meta, Comparative Literature Studies, Language and Literature, English Studies, Comparative Critical Studies, and ARIEL: A Review of International English Literature. She has contributed 5 entries to The Routledge Encyclopedia of Narrative Theory and she is the only non-western narrative theorist invited to contribute a chapter to A Companion to Narrative Theory.
